3 must try Champagne Cocktails

We all have that summer feeling; floppy hats are dusted off, sunburn is inevitable and drinking in the garden with friends is a must.We have created three, unavoidable Champagne Gin Cocktails that are easy to create at home and taste as good as the feeling of sunshine on your face.

Gin Foolery

First up is the Gin Foolery which is VERY loosely based on the Gin Rickey. We wanted to create a Cornish gin cocktail that is as refreshing as an Aperol Spritz, but with a gin base. What we have created is perfect to help cool off in the classic British muggy warm weather.

We have used orange juice to create an easy and refreshing summer drink that is as good for hangovers (!) as it is for thirst.

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • Juice of one small orange

  • 50ml Jellyfish Gin

  • One Jellyfish Gin  infusion pocket

  • 25ml dry Vermouth

  • 120ml Champagne (or Cornish Sparkling Wine)

  • Orange twist to garnish

Instructions

Fill a glass with ice and set aside. Add Jellyfish Gin, vermouth and orange juice into a cocktail shaker and stir well. Remove the ice from the glass, pour in the contents of the cocktail shaker into the empty glass and top with Champagne. Add the infusion pocket and a twist of orange peel to garnish.

French 75

French 75

We love this classic cocktail; first invented by french troops in the first world war (with a mix of brandy, gin, lemon juice and grenadine) and then perfected in the speakeasies of the late 1920s (by swapping the brandy and grenadine for Champagne), this drink has truly gone through an evolution.

Unlike the modern day versions of this drink, which is served in a flute, this 1920’s French 75 is served in a tall glass filled with ice - which is exactly how we like it. This long drink is perfect for a relaxing summers evening.

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • Juice of one squeezed lemon

  • 3 tsp caster sugar

  • 50ml Jellyfish Gin

  • Chameleon Gin infusion pocket

  • 90ml Champagne

  • Lemon (to slide around the rim)

Instructions

Stir the lemon juice and the sugar together in a shaker until the sugar dissolves. Add a glug of our Cornish gin, the infusion pocket and ice to the shaker. Shake for 30 seconds. Fill a coupe glass with ice and strain in the gin mixture. Top with champagne.

Pink Hugo

Pink Hugo

The Hugo cocktail was invented in South Tyrol in the mid 2000’s by barman Roland Gruber and has since become infamous all over the world.

The original recipe used lemon balm syrup, sparkling water and prosecco, over time lemon balm was replaced with elderflower cordial (which is perfect for summer drinks as elderflower is abundant and ready for foraging from May - August in the UK).

Foolishly, he forgot to add Gin! This english summertime drink is our twist on “The Hugo” - “The Pink Hugo”

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 120ml Sparkling wine

  • 25ml Jellyfish Gin

  • 15ml Elderflower cordial

  • 10ml Crème de mûre

  • 60ml soda water

Instructions

Pour in the sparkling wine, then pour the gin, Crème de mûre and elderflower cordial over the top. Give it a very short stir and top with soda. If you fancy, add mint sprigs, Lavender or elderflower flowers (depending on the season) to garnish your refreshing pink gin cocktail.
